Getting "error code = -1" when installing Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c R2

Problem:

When running any of the Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c (12.2.1.1.0) installers, we received the following error:

[oracle@soahost1 ~]# ./fmw_12.2.1.1.0_ohs_linux64.bin 

0%...................................................................................................

** Failed to extract files from /u01/temp/fmw_12.2.1.1.0_ohs_linux64.bin; error code = -1.

Solution:

1. Delete everything in your /tmp folder (as the oracle user) and try again:

[oracle@soahost1 ~]# rm -rf /tmp/*
