In Oracle JDeveloper 11g, you can easily configure database connections via the Database Navigator.
This is easily done for Oracle databases, but for Microsoft SQL Server databases, a few steps need to be performed.
Configuring the Microsoft SQL Server Driver in JDeveloper 11g
1. Navigate to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=21599 to download the "Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0"
2. Click on "Download" beside 1033\sqljdbc_3.0.1301.101_enu.exe
3. Double-click sqljdbc_3.0.1301.101_enu.exe and unzip it to c:\Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0
4. Open JDeveloper 11g
5. On the menu, navigate to Tools > Preferences
6. Expand Database
7. Click on JDBC Driver Options
8. Click on New
9. Click on Browse
10. Click on New
11. Enter a Library Name of "SQLServerDriver"
12. Click on Add Entry
13. Locate the file sqljdbc4.jar from your file system (should be under c:\Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0\sqljdbc_3.0\enu\sqljdbc4.jar)
14. Click on Select
15. Click on OK
16. Click on OK
17. Enter a Driver Class of "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"
18. Click on OK
Creating a Microsoft SQL Server Database Connection in JDeveloper 11g
1. Under the Database Navigator, right-click on IDE Connections and click on New Connection
2. Enter the database connections of your database, and click on the Test Connection button to test it
